The Lake Michigan waters off of Door County offer
some of the best Wreck diving in the world. From wooden
schooners to steel hull Steamers, the cold, clear water has
helped preserve these historic Ships and their machinery. Diving
depths range from 15 feet to over 200 feet. With water
temperatures ranging from 40 to 60 degrees. A good wetsuit, or
better yet, a dry suit is recommended. Visibility ranges from
100 feet to 20 feet but generally averages 45. Portholes, cargo,
deck machinery, wrenches, dead-eyes, blocks and other fixtures
still remain for you to enjoy and photograph. All recreational
dives must be no decompression dives. Wetsuits, BCs, regulators,
weight, air cylinders and nitrox cylinders for recreational
diving is available for an additional charge. To be sure the
gear you need will be available for your trip, equipment
requests need to be made 2 weeks prior to your charter dates.
Technical dive charters are available for divers with
technical diving certifications. Technical divers must supply
all of their own equipment and breathing gasses.
The Green Bay waters off of Door County also offer some
outstanding wrecks. Water temperatures are somewhat warmer
ranging from 50 to 70 degrees with visibility from 10 to 40 feet
but generally averaging around 20 feet. Dive depths range from
45 feet to over 110. Ambient light diminishes quickly at depths
over 50 feet in the bay of Green Bay and a good dive light is
recommended.
